CADD Rewards Program
Important information about our CADD rewards program
Wealthsimple Investments Inc. (“Wealthsimple”, “we”, “us” or “our”) may offer a rewards program to clients who hold CADD. CADD is a Canadian dollar stablecoin, which is a crypto asset designed to hold a stable value of one Canadian dollar per unit. It is issued by Tetra Trust Company (“Tetra”), a regulated Alberta trust company, and administered by CAD Digital Inc. (“CAD Digital”), which handles its day-to-day operation. You can hold, send and receive CADD, and redeem it at par for Canadian dollars.
This document explains what the Wealthsimple rewards program is, how it works, and how it is funded. The program is separate from CADD itself: CADD does not pay any reward, yield, interest or return, and any rewards are paid by Wealthsimple, not by CADD. This document is not advice or a recommendation.
Additional terms and conditions that apply to our rewards programs are set out in the Wealthsimple Crypto Account Agreement, available at wealthsimple.com/en-ca/legal/account-agreements.
The rewards program is a loyalty program
The CADD rewards program is a loyalty program funded by Wealthsimple. Its purpose is to recognize and encourage your use of our platform and to encourage you to explore and use our other products and services. Rewards are paid by Wealthsimple, in our discretion, as a way of recognizing you for choosing to hold and use CADD with us. They are not a payment made by CADD, by its issuer, or by anyone else.
In deciding whether to pay rewards, and how much, we currently consider the amount of CADD you hold on our platform. CADD balances are not considered deposit accounts.
Rewards are not a feature of CADD
CADD is designed to hold a stable value of one Canadian dollar per unit. It is not designed to grow in value, and you are not expected to earn a return by holding it. Any rewards you receive come from Wealthsimple under this loyalty program, not from CADD or its issuer, Tetra. If we changed, paused or ended the rewards program, CADD itself would be unaffected and would continue to work in the same way.
CADD rewards eligibility
To earn rewards, you must be a Wealthsimple client in good standing and hold at least $1 of CADD on our platform. There is no maximum holding limit. Because CADD is a payment instrument meant to be used by anyone, the rewards program is intended to be available to all eligible clients who hold CADD, it is not a premium feature, a paid tier, or a benefit reserved for a select group.
How rewards work
Rewards, if offered, accrue daily. For each day you hold at least $1 of CADD on our platform, you accrue a reward based on that day's CADD balance and the current reward rate, so a larger balance accrues more.
We pay rewards weekly, in arrears: the rewards you accrue during a week are paid to you the following week on or around Tuesday, in CADD, into your CADD balance.
There is no lockup. You can sell, send or redeem your CADD at any time. If you do so partway through a week, you still receive the rewards you accrued for the days you held CADD, and you keep any rewards that have already been paid to you.
You can turn rewards on or off at any time by contacting us at wealthsimple.com/en-ca/contact.
If you opt out of receiving CADD rewards or close your Crypto Account, you will forfeit any rewards that have accrued but have not yet been distributed to you as at that time.
The reward rate is variable. You can see the current rate in the app.
How rewards are funded
Rewards are funded entirely from Wealthsimple's own capital and resources. We do not have the right to use any CADD you hold in your account, and we do not lend or use your CADD, or your account holdings, to fund rewards. We do not use your CADD unless you specifically instruct us to.
Tetra may, from time to time, earn income on the assets that back CADD. This income is retained by Tetra and may be distributed to certain distribution partners, such as Wealthsimple. Any fees we receive from Tetra or CAD Digital are paid to us on their own terms, and once paid, are entirely our own to use as we see fit. Because we use our own capital and resources to fund rewards, and not these fees, the fees may be more or less than the rewards we pay you and may be paid to us on different timelines and schedules. This means rewards are not backed by any guaranteed or matching source of funding, and the amount of rewards you receive, and whether we continue to pay them, is not fixed. Rewards are not a distribution of, or a share in, any income earned on the assets that back CADD, and holding CADD does not entitle you to any of that income or to any return on those assets.
Rewards are discretionary
Our rewards program is offered entirely at our discretion. We may change the reward rate, or change, suspend or discontinue the rewards program, at any time. Holding CADD does not entitle you to receive any rewards.
Turning off CADD rewards
You can turn off CADD rewards at any time. If you do, you'll stop accruing new rewards, and you'll give up any rewards you've accrued in the current period that haven't been paid to you yet. Rewards already paid into your CADD balance are yours to keep and don't expire.
You can turn rewards back on at any time. You'll start accruing rewards again from the day you turn them back on, not for any period in between.
To turn off CADD rewards, please contact us at wealthsimple.com/en-ca/contact.
Tax
Rewards may have tax consequences. Rewards you receive may be taxable in the year you receive them. We do not provide tax advice; you should consider your own circumstances and consult your own tax advisor.
Conflicts of interest
We make CADD available under commercial arrangements with CAD Digital and Tetra, and we have financial and other interests in CADD and in those companies. Because we earn compensation in connection with CADD and stand to benefit from its success in ways we would not if you held cash or a different product, we may be perceived to have an incentive to make CADD available to you, to favour it over other products, or to encourage you to acquire, hold or transact in CADD. Other conflicts may also arise from time to time.
None of these arrangements or interests overrides our obligation to deal with you fairly, honestly and in good faith. We describe these conflicts, and how we address them, in our conflict of interest policy.
